BBC Scotland launches Room To Write

Room To Write

BBC Scotland has launched a new scheme for comedy writers.

Room To Write is a brand new BBC Comedy and BBC Writersroom initiative in which a number of writers will be given the opportunity to work with BBC Scotland's Comedy Production team.

In total 10-20 comedy writers will be selected to work with BBC Scotland to help create the next wave of Scottish comedy shows. Those chosen will get a rare opportunity to learn from experienced professionals including writers Jack Docherty and Susan Calman, and to be part of an exclusive online comedy writing forum where they will gain feedback and have their work read by Comedy Producers.

The scheme is open to those aged 18 or over. Interested writers must attend one of the free workshops which will be held across Scotland in May, then submit two sketches to the organisers by mid-June. The BBC will then, based on these sketches, invite the best 10 to 20 writers into the exclusive online comedy writing forum by Friday the 25th July 2014.

The BBC emphasises this is not a work placement or full time job, but rather a unique opportunity to work closely with them to develop your comedy ideas.

The Room To Write workshops will be held on these dates in May 2014:

Saturday 3rd May in DUNDEE (Morning)

Sunday 4th May in GLASGOW (Morning and Afternoon sessions)

Saturday 10th May in EDINBURGH (Morning and Afternoon sessions)

Saturday 24th May in ABERDEEN (Afternoon)

Sunday 25th May in INVERNESS (Morning)
