Seann Walsh interview

Seann Walsh

Seann Walsh is currently touring his latest stand-up show and is back filming TV panel show Virtually Famous. BCG quickly caught up with him to find out the latest...

Hi Seann. Do you ever regret having that extra 'n' on the end of your name?

I added it when I was 16 so, along with the rest of the things I did when I was 16, such as wearing dungarees, yes I regret it.

Last year you missed a gig as you got Hertford and Hereford confused. You finally made it to Hertford earlier this month for the re-scheduled date. How were the crowd?

They were great... after the 10 minutes of heckling at the top.

As part of your tour, you've got a couple of big shows coming up at the Bloomsbury Theatre... just to check, you know that it's in London, and it's not the one in America?

Thank you. I'll make sure I get a cab just in case.

The show, '28', is about your changing lifestyle. How's that all going? Do you think you'll still be doing stand-up when you're 50?

Yes, my life is a lot calmer now. That's not to say I don't go off the rails now and then, but I've learned how to enjoy myself without having to take years off my life. Nowadays my real passion in life is sitting. I hope to God I'm not doing stand-up when I'm 50.

You're due back on TV soon for Series 2 of Virtually Famous, the E4 panel show about internet stars. What's it like working with host Kevin McHale and fellow captain Chris Stark?

Kevin's a lovely guy, and I enjoy the bond I have with him and Chris. We're three very different people. I'm not used to spending my time around people that smile as much as they do, so it makes a nice change.

Kevin rose to stardom via Glee... you don't strike us as the sort of person who would naturally watch Glee? Did you check it out though before you met him?

No. Only because, just no.

Given 24 hours and £10,000 do you think you could create a viral video hit?

Maybe... by burning £10,000. Other than that, there's no one that understands the viral video less than me. People desperately feel the need to share and show you these videos of, I don't know, someone snoring a One Direction song in their sleep. I just smile and say "yeah ha ha", then go back to my crisps.

As a team captain, you get to meet all sorts of guests. Has anyone surprised you by being different than you expected?

I enjoyed Rylan's company very much. I shouldn't have been surprised by that, but I was. I'm an arsehole!

What's next for you after your final tour dates and Virtually Famous?

I'd like to rest for a bit. I'm writing a lot. Then I'll be back with some more stand-up next year.

Virtually Famous will be on E4 on Mondays at 10pm, from the 13th April 2015.
