Series 2, Episode 3 - Love And Marriage

Love is definitely in the air. Alice and Hugo's marriage is now just days away, and as long as her mum can have the dress knitted in time, the eccentric event will be something for the whole village to remember. There's also a visitor in the village, David's younger brother Simon...

Further details

The date of Alice and Hugo's wedding is fast approaching, and little Miss Tinker has to make a decision about the design of her dress. Presenting Geraldine with a range of options and ideas, Alice stuns the Vicar almost into silence. Every suggestion is predictably horrific, but Alice's mum needs to begin knitting it soon! Perhaps her dress could have hearts on - with a different Doctor Who in each one?

The Vicar attempts to deal with Alice tactfully, but Dibley's very own wonder of nature appears to be particularly frustrating at the moment, and when Geraldine receives an offer to work at an inner-city church in Liverpool, she is very tempted.

Plans start moving into motion and rehearsals for the big event begin. Simon, David's tall, dashing brother arrives for the event, and instantly steals the Vicar's heart. When he mentions he works in Liverpool, Geraldine's mind is made up!

Jim is the best man and rehearses his speech to Geraldine, which, unfortunately, is based on ABBA's song Knowing Me, Knowing You. It's sweet, but therefore takes an age to get through! Later, on the hen night, Alice philosophises to the Vicar about her relationship with Hugo: could it be that the two get on so well because her father is David Horton and they are thus related?

Geraldine's world opens up into a deep, dark Hell. Can she let the wedding go ahead? No one need ever find out. Not until the first child is born that is, with eight legs. And webbed feet. And fur. She's near distraught with the dilemma - it's the wedding day and she'll have to cancel with just hours notice. However, an exasperated discussion with Owen reveals the truth: the David Horton to whom Alice was born, is 'Dirty Dave Horton, the Stud of Stadhampton' - the cousin of the present David Horton's father!

With confirmation that Alice and Hugo are merely second cousins, the eccentric wedding can go ahead, complete with Tellytubby bridesmaids and pageboys, flashing lights and chocolate bars. Geraldine catches the bouquet after the ceremony and then announces to the village that she'll be leaving for a new job in Liverpool. However, Simon is a little disappointed as he's just agreed to move to Dibley!
