Series 2 - Engagement

Alice is concerned. She and Hugo mightn't have been romantically linked for long, but she's known him for 26 years and they've still never kissed - is she so unattractive? When the inevitable eventually happens, David is far from pleased, and Hugo has an important decision to make.

Further details

The Vicar is writing the parish newsletter, although it's not looking awfully promising: the main stories include a sock which is missing its partner, and Owen selling a half-eaten jigsaw puzzle.

But more immediately, Geraldine has some counselling to do for Alice, who is confused about Jesus coming back because her mum wants to have the carpets nice and clean for him. She also fears that she's unattractive because Hugo hasn't yet kissed her. Geri arranges a meeting for Alice and Hugo and tells them both individually that they must make the move.

Come the meeting, and neither of the pair are forthcoming. Geraldine has to scream at them to embrace - of course, once they start they just can't stop, and their first kiss lasts for nearly five hours!

Amongst all of the ensuing romance, Owen reveals to the Vicar that he has barely ever touched a human female, nevermind kissed one. In pity, she permits him to kiss her, and he's soon proposed - how does a Vicar let down a farmer with a family history of suicidal violence gently?

When Hugo tells David about his newly-found romance, his father reacts predictably badly. David tells Hugo that he will be disinherited and thrown out of the house if he marries Alice - but with a little back up from Geraldine, he stands up for himself for the first time and insists that he will marry the woman he loves, with or without his father's blessing.

This is good news for Geraldine too, as she now has a good front page story for the parish newsletter!
