Reuben is a 35 year-old bachelor who manages the dry-cleaning business founded by his late father.
His life is run by his archetypal Jewish mother, Fay, and if he were to try to marry a gentile she would give him a marriage present he will never forget - an invitation to her funeral! This is unfortunate for Reuben who is in a relationship with Betty Smith, a woman who has never set foot in a synagogue.
