Series 1 (1990)The first series of Have I Got News For You kicked things off in 1990. Series 2 (1991)Following the successful debut series, Have I Got News For You returned in 1991 for an extended ten episode run, plus its first Christmas special. Series 3 (1992)The 1992 General Election, in which John Major managed to hold onto power, started off the third series. Series 4 (1992)Have I Got News For You was back for a second series towards the end of 1992. Series 5 (1993)Jonathan Ross, Peter Cook, Frank Skinner and Alan Coren were amongst the series five guests. The Rt. Hon. Tub of Lard MP also got his moment in the limelight. Series 6 (1993)Series six saw both the Margaret Thatcher Special and the 1993 Christmas Special. Series 7 (1994)The first series in 1994 featured guests like Jonathan Ross, Eddie Izzard, Hugh Dennis, Salman Rushdie and Maureen Lipman. Series 8 (1994)Martin Clunes, Arthur Smith, Michael Buerk and Alexei Sayle were amongst the guests in series eight. Series 9 (1995)Eddie Izzard, Michael Winner and Tim Rice were amongst the series 9 guests. Series 10 (1995)The second series in 1995 included the episode in which Paula Yates and Ian had their argument. Series 11 (1996)This series is notable for the absence of Paul Merton. The team captain had decided to take a one-series break from the show and thus he only appeared in the first of these eight episodes. Series 12 (1996)Greg Proops, Ken Livingstone, Peter Stringfellow, Elvis Costello, Jack Docherty and Jennifer Paterson were amongst the guests in this series. Series 13 (1997)The 1997 General Election fell in the middle of this series. Unsurprisingly Tony Blair taking power was the biggest talking point. Series 14 (1997)Graeme Garden, Arabella Weir, Warren Mitchell and Brian Sewell were amongst the guests on series 14. Series 15 (1998)Patrick Kielty, Boris Johnson, John Humphrys and Oona King were some of the guest in this series. Series 16 (1998)Magnus Magnusson was one of the sixteen guests in this second 1998 series. Series 17 (1999)1999 saw HIGNFY take part in Children In Need for the first time. The show was combined with elements of Never Mind the Buzzcocks and They Think It's All Over for the special. Series 18 (1999)Gyles Brandreth, Anna Ford and Janet Street-Porter were amongst the guests in this series. Series 19 (2000)Stephen Fry, Max Clifford, Sheila Hancock and Jon Snow were the guests in the first HIGNFY series of the millennium. Series 20 (2000)Sanjeev Bhaskar, Peter Stringfellow, Rich Hall and Charles Kennedy were amongst the guests on this series. Series 21 (2001)The first HIGNFY series of 2001 was a busy affair - it contained both a Children In Need Special and a 2001 General Election Special. Series 22 (2001)The second season of Have I Got News For You in 2001. Series 23 (2002)In was business as usual for HIGNFY in 2002... until The News Of The World put host Angus Deayton on its front page on the 19th May. The host suddenly was the news - it was a scandal that would eventually lead to him being forced to stand down as host. Series 24 (2002)Angus Deayton was still in the papers as the second series of 2002 started. After two episodes, he was fired. Paul Merton took over as host for one week, and then the idea of using guest hosts took hold. Anne Robinson, John Sergeant, Boris Johnson, Liza Tarbuck, Charles Kennedy and Jeremy Clarkson were the first people to get a go in the host's chair. Series 25 (2003)The guest hosts in this series: Martin Clunes, William Hague, Charlotte Church, Alexander Armstrong, John Sergeant, Hugh Dennis, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Bruce Forsyth.
