Update: Jack Whitehall, writing on Twitter, has confirmed the new series will start on the 5th January 2016.

Fresh Meat, Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong's award-winning university comedy drama, is set to return to Channel 4 early in 2016 for a final run. It's a series which will see the prospect of the real world looming large for the student housemates.

Jack Whitehall (JP), Zawe Ashton (Vod), Charlotte Ritchie (Oregon), Joe Thomas (Kingsley), Greg McHugh (Howard) and Kimberley Nixon (Josie) are all set to return.

When we left the residents of 28 Hartnell Avenue at the end of Series 3 things weren't going so well for the gang; JP had put the house on the market, but had a change of heart when he realised it meant too much to him; Kingsley and Josie's on/off relationship seemed to be finally over; Oregon and Vod's friendship was on the rocks, only to be saved when Vod sabotaged her own campaign to become president of the student union. The only housemate who seemed to be in a good place was Howard, when he went on a date with Candice.

In this fourth and final series, the end of University life is drawing close for the residents of 28 Hartnell Avenue as the housemates face their finals and the prospect of Graduation. All except Josie, who faces her final year being alone without her friends!

When JP's brother pays an unexpected visit, it's a wakeup call for all the housemates. JP is told it's time to knuckle down if he wants to land a safe job in the family firm, but is he made of the right stuff? Meanwhile Vod is wrestling with a debt that could sink a small Euro state, while Oregon, now Student Union President, plans her legacy.

Also in the new series: Kingsley finds himself in an unconventional relationship, and Howard is headed for a first Class degree, until some unexpected news sends him spiralling. Meanwhile poor 2nd year Josie faces the prospect of being without her friends for next year.

The new series will also feature Ayda Field, from Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip. If you recall, the last series saw Oregon striving to become Student Union President, and her campaign was successful. Now planning her legacy she seeks the support of Support Officer Rosa, played by Field.

Rosa is a strong minded, no nonsense woman, and when Oregon’s ambitions and self-aggrandizing plans start to overshadow her responsibilities, tensions rise between the president and her aide. While Oregon and Rosa's working relationship starts to deteriorate, Kingsley is drawn to Rosa's complicated, mature sophistication... but how long before she sees beyond the apparently carefree student?
