Michael Upton, a newly qualified M.B., has quit the security of St. Swithin's and has ventured out into the world to fulfil his dream of becoming a surgeon. His first problem is to find a job, and his adventures in the world of rural surgeries and private practice help him grow up rather quickly.

Our Review: The first follow-up series to the highly successful Doctor In The House saw the doctors venture out from the hospital. Subsequent series soon had them back in there again - but without Barry Evans who would quit after the final episode. He had been the focal point of the whole venture and ever-present throughout all 55 episodes. Robin Nedwell would take up the baton of the "cute" doctor in the next outing, Doctor In Charge, and hold it until the series was no more.

Episode 14, No Ill Feeling, is of particular interest; written by John Cleese, it is based on his experience with the Monty Python team in a Torquay hotel - he would, of course, go on to revive the setting in Fawlty Towers.

Due to industrial action at the time, the first six episodes of the series were recorded in black and white.
