In deepest rural Sussex is the picturesque village of Stackton Tressel, home to ageing spinsters Dr Evadne Hinge and Dame Hilda Bracket.

The pair are long term best friends and a musical duo, who share a large home on the outskirts of the village. Whilst Dame Hilda is constantly upbeat she is also not the most practical, and can seem somewhat ditzy - Dr Hinge, on the other hand, is very hands-on, and almost boringly sensible.
