Series 1 (2006)Screenwipe started life via a three-part pilot run on BBC Four in March 2006. Series 2 (2006)Following the success of the pilot run, more episodes were commissioned for the summer, including a special about American television. At the end of 2006 there was also a new Christmas special and the first Screenwipe review of the year. Series 3 (2007)Screenwipe returned for a third series in February 2007. Amongst the topics looked at were computer games, TV ratings and the skills TV presenters need. Series 4 (2007)In September 2007 Brooker tackled various subjects, from the 'TV fakery' scandals to the production tricks used in reality TV shows. Series 5 (2008)There were six episodes of Screenwipe in 2008, including a much-praised hour long 'writing special' in which Brooker talked to various famous TV writers about the craft. Newswipe (2009)Newswipe with Charlie Brooker is a Screenwipe spin-off in which the presenter firmly sets his sights on news and current affairs. The creator says: "This is new territory for me – I'm no current affairs expert. Just like, I suspect, many people, when I tune into the news I often feel like I've wandered into episode 389 of the world's most complex soap opera. So it's also about me trying to make sense of a bewildering and often bloody stupid world." Gameswipe (2009)Gameswipe pokes fun at the world of video games and its relationship with the media. 2009 Special (2009)Charlie returns for a one-off end-of-year Screenwipe special in a doomed bid to summarise 2009's TV output without vomiting. Newswipe (2010)A second run of Newswipe With Charlie Brooker hit our screens in early 2010. |
