An ITV3 documentary series which looked at how contemporary Britain at the close of the 20th century was reflected in the British comedy programmes that were made during that time.

The hour-long episodes feature news archive material, interviews with famous comedy professionals (including John Cleese), and clips from the various sitcoms discussed.

Our Review: It's definitely worth making time for this documentary series. Not only does Beyond A Joke feature exclusive interviews with the stars and writers of some of the big comedies of yesteryear, but it also features clips from less-well-known comedies that don't normally get mentioned in your average comedy documentary.
