Radio sitcom set around the professional and personal life of the social worker Clare Barker. Control freak Clare likes nothing better than interfering in other people's lives on both a professional and personal basis.

Using constant professional and technical jargon while working with colleagues and at home with her partner Brian, Clare rarely finds time to solve her own problems. She is too involved improving her client's lives and solving her friend's problems. For Clare everything is a competition, from having the ultimate linguistic answer to an argument, to improving Brian's lifestyle and their relationship as a couple. Through frequent 'talks' about their relationship, Clare and Brian agree that they love each other but eventually come to realise that they have little shared interests.

Series One follows Clare as she trains student Megan to become a professional social worker. It also reveals the beginnings of the early snags in Clare and Brain's not-so-stable relationship.

Series Two illustrates Brian trying to strengthen his relationship with Clare, as he attempts to propose... but when the opportunity arrives, the situation suddenly turns dire. Clare gets a chance to prove her professionalism as she is interviewed for Woman's Hour and Megan, now a professional social worker, is expecting her first child.

Series Three is set a year later, with Megan handling life as a single mother and looking after her daughter Brenda. Now living in Simon's flat, Clare and Brian's relationship starts to break apart and Brian suggests couple counselling, but Clare is convinced they don't need any.

Series Four depicts Clare and Brian's crumbling relationship as they finally agree to seek out couple counselling. Irene reveals an unexpected secret, and Ray has found someone who has agreed to marry him.

Series Five sees Clare and Brian with their first child, Thomas, and the introduction of the nanny, Nali. The family centre is also in trouble.

In Series Six, the team are joined by Irene's Aussie counterpart Libby.

In the latest series - Series Seven - the big question is whether Clare and Brian's relationship can survive.
