Play UK

Play UK

Play UK (previously known as UK Play) was a UKTV-owned channel that broadcast on digital platforms from 1998 - 2002. The collapse of ITV Digital forced the channel to close in 2002. Not only did Play UK repeat many classic comedy series (for example, Big Train and The League of Gentlemen), it also commissioned a surprising amount of home-grown British comedy. Play UK's commissions helped launch the careers of David Mitchell and Robert Webb (The Mitchell and Webb Situation); Matt Lucas and David Walliams (Rock Profile); and Russell Brand (RE:Brand). Not bad going for a small digital channel!
