Bridezilla Georgina answers 10 Edinburgh Fringe Questions

Anna Morris

Georgina Francis, who some have called a 'Bridezilla', is finally getting married in Edinburgh this August. She has answered our 10 questions below...

1. Tell us about your career so far. Are you happy with where you're at?

Well I've never really had a 'career' so to speak like generic members of the public as I've never had to work as I'm so rich!

I became famous by default after Simon my wonderful fiancé proposed to me and I decided to make some wedding blogs to inspire other Brides and give tragic single women a bit of escapism! Of course it went viral overnight as I'm an inspiration and icon to other women.

I am now focusing entirely on my charity work. My full time job at the moment is my wedding planning (I've actually opened a wedding planning office just off the Kings Road, employing over 25 staff - just solely dedicated to planning my OWN wedding of course!). Once the wedding is over they'll all be sacked and I'll have nothing to do so I'm going to focus on charity work.

Being someone who despises illness, animals and children, I chose something I feel passionate about and my charity is Bride Aid - dedicated to help underprivileged Brides and put a stop to austerity weddings in the UK.

2. Describe your show in exactly 23 words.

Britain's Best Bride and internet sensation Georgina Francis is having 22 wedding rehearsals during the Edinburgh Fringe as it's GOT to be PERFECT!

3. Why are you putting yourself through this famously stressful experience?

I'm getting married in Edinburgh Castle on 31st August and this HAS to be the wedding of the century and so I'm rehearsing it as many times as possible. Most people have 1 wedding rehearsal, but I am NOT most people! I'm a global icon for women all over the world. I really do have it all!

So I found out about this little Edinburgh Festival thing and have decided to utilise it and have as many wedding rehearsals as possible using generic members of the public to fill in as guests and relatives so I can practice it.

4. Any cunning plans to get more punters in?

One doesn't need to have any cunning plans when one is so popular like me. I shall be giving out 'mock' wedding invitations as my flyers (well my staff will, not me!) so that people feel like they are coming to a proper wedding. Obviously none of them would ever be invited to the proper wedding! The wedding favours have kindly been provided by Love Hearts and everyone who attends will receive a pack on the way out.

5. How much money do you think you'll lose/make this year?

Oh gosh well the wedding is costing £1 million so far, so money is really not an issue here. I shall be asking for donations of course for my charity Bride Aid as people leave. 75% of the donations will go to Bride Aid, and the rest will go towards my Honeymoon fund!

What are you most looking forward to about your first Edinburgh Festival?

Well we're staying at the Balmoral of course so I'm looking forward to that. I've no desire to see anything else or do anything else as I really need to focus on the wedding. On my big day!

7. What other shows are you hoping to see?

I shan't see anything else - I need to focus 100% on myself and my wedding day. I have no interest in watching students balance chairs on their heads in leotards and as for comedy - I haven't laughed at anyone's jokes apart from my own since 2007 so I shan't be seeing any of that nonsense! I'm not sure how my wedding rehearsals ended up being listed as 'comedy' it was a huge mistake and the people responsible will be sacked.

8. If you took over programming a venue, what would you perfect line-up of comedians be?

The only person I find amusing is Michael McIntyre - oh and I do adore Phillip (pip!) Schofield.

9. Name the one person you'd rather not bump into during the festival.

My fiancé Simon's ex-girlfriend Harriet.

10. Why should audiences pick your show over the 1,700+ other comedy offerings at this year's festival?

Because I am Georgina Francis and NOTHING will get in the way of MY perfect day.
This 'show' is a rehearsal for the Best Day of My Life. If you come, you're guaranteed to have the best day of yours!

Don't. Be. Late.

This interview was arranged by Georgina's assistant Anna Morris.

'Anna Morris: It's Got To Be Perfect' is at the Voodoo Rooms at 3:55pm on 8-17, 19-30 August. Entry is free. Listing
