To celebrate its 40th anniversary the film of Akenfield has been digitally re-mastered for release soon, which is set in my home county, and is a wonderfully moving film produced and directed by Peter Hall based on the book by Ronald Blyth, and if you haven't seen it then please do so as it is brilliant and unique in that it has no professional actors, the parts all being taken by local villagers.

Amazon have got it wrong in saying it was made in the village of Akenfield, as it wasn't (there is an Akenfield in Suffolk but is a only a tiny part of another hamlet) as it was shot around Otley and Clopton.

Had a lead role in the film of course, and is still with us - aged 80 next month. I remember going around her prize winning garden when she had open days for charity in the 1970s. Lovely friendly lady.

Good point, but I see that the BFI said it would be in 2015 and that is it so far.

BFI just told me it's going to be early 2016.

Yes, that was on the local news yesterday..........about time, although I have had a copy for years that I transferred from my original VHS recording along with the documentary they made on the making of it a little while ago.
