Favourite Actor

Is this a question or a statement?

Daniel Day-Lewis

I really like Leonardo Di Caprio, ever since The Basket Ball Diaries I thought he showed great on screen presence and commitment to his characters. I don't necessarily like all his films but I will always give them a try. I'm so glad he shook off that teenage pinup phase and broke-through as a recognisably good, strong actor. Albiet an Oscar-less one.

When I was growing up and getting more into movies, I was really fascinated by Robert Di Niro but it was easy to see why when I had the pick of the best to watch from him and his amazing career. A personal favourite was Casino, as I just loved everything about that, especially his character "Ace". Who was maybe the first time I saw depth in a character, any character, especially flaws beyond them just being a simple good or bad guy. In retrospect though, he's somewhat lost his shine. I still love all his old films but his insistence on "exploring" comedy over the past few years really doesn't do anything for me. It doesn't matter, I'm sure not even a Yewtree investigation could tarnish his legendary status.

She's not my favourite by far but Linda Henry aka Shirely from Eastenders has great acting ability. I really loved the way she demonstrated frustration with Heather being someone she depended on in her life, however much she sometimes resented that. It's something you might only see, after you look past the slaggy/gobby exterior her character is known for.

Still makes me very sad, the way things ended up for him.
Never gave a performance that was less than riveting.

My first encounter with De Niro was the film "Midnight Run" which is a bit of a transitional film in his oeuvre. At the tail end of his method acting prime but just before his "Fockers-phase". The latter doesn't do much for me too.
I think Midnight Run is still the best way to experience "De Niro Light".

Agreed.
My favourite line of his from that film:
" I've got two words for you - shut the f**k up!"
