Dangerous fake email scams Page 3

Just received, but am so wary of scams that always think warnings about scams are scams too

Can you circulate this around especially as Christmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact the m on 0906 6611911 (a Premium rate number).

DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize .

If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £315 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 020 7239 6655.
For more information, see the Crime Stoppers website

:( Thankyou, I'm bound to get one.

We had a warning about that last year. Must have been going on for ages!

I think this is genuine, though don't know about phoning the number to report it. Read about it in the press ages ago. Might be best to report to Trading Standards rather than phone any number.

Nah, AJGO is right to be suspicious about most scam warnings being scams themselves. This one is an old scam that is nothing to worry about now: http://www.hoax-slayer.com/pds-phone-scam.html

Hoaxslayer and Snopes are good websites to assess these things. Sometimes the perpetuation of the fear is the aim of the originator, sometimes they want you to click on a link that looks like it will help you but it won't. 99% of the time an email saying there is a scam you should be aware of is an email you should ignore or delete.

FAKE!

The one you posted above is called a Nigerian 419 scam. They started from Nigeria, but now you may get one from almost anywhere including the UK and often they pick on the latest world tragedy as the basis of their letter.

There are websites of people who bait these criminals by going along with it & making daft requests for the crim to prove himself/herself, but that is a dangerous game as some of the criminals are vicious. There are rumours of victims being lured to Nigeria carrying money & documents to "pay the expenses of the giant-sum-of-money transfer" and then being murdered for what they bring.

Serves them right if they fall for it. They are so greedy they deserve to die.

Ever more inventive, these 419-type crims, now a GOLD BOX.

And . . I also got an email promising penis enlargement from wearing a patch on the arm ! HTF is that supposed to work ? !

The patch is emblazoned with a photo of a nude woman. Glance down at it for a few moments and wait for the enlargement to begin.
