Veep

Is this the first time a British writer has created an original series for American television?

It's not totally original though, is it? It's the US version of The Thick Of It. Looking forward to it. Hopefully Armando's experience of working with US actors on the same basic style of comedy (i.e. In The Loop) will stand him in good stead for the TV series.

So the American 'The Thick Of It' is in production, starring Julia Louis Dreyfus (Elaine from Seinfeld) and again with Armado Iannucci at the helm. And it looks like he's not the only Brit comedy titan involved:

A bit of a slow day here so I did some sleuthing around the net and found Brian
Cooke (Man About the House/George & Mildred) created a syndicated sitcom called Starting From Scratch for the US and that was remade as Close to Home for the UK.

John Sullivan also wrote some original episodes for the US Dear John with Judd Hirsch.

Coool. I hope he is more involved with the production than simply script editing (not to put down any of the script editors on this board! :P)

I know its an American cover version but I still think this will be good. What does everyone else think?

Armando has revealed on twitter that Chris Morris is going to direct some of Veep! I find this exciting!

HBO has released a teaser trailer for the show.

Has Armando Iannucci done anything that wasn't funny? Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the only Seinfeld cast member to have a second successful sitcom... so hopefully she has a third in her.

Well, he did exec produce Lab Rats, which was either a) a well-meaning but ultimately unfunny attempt to do a big, fun sitcom, or b) a work of unbridled genius - depending on whether you're a) most people, or b) Marc P.

Tony Hale!

Episode one was broadcast in the US last night.

I'm looking forward to watching it later this evening.

Is the title explained on one of these links?

V.P.- Vice President - VEEP. I assume it's just slang for those initials.
