Louie

Louis C.K. is an American stand up comedian, and he writes/directs/stars/makes the sandwiches for this new comedy, 'Louie'. There've been three episodes so far broadcast on the F/X Channel in the States (the latest episode features Ricky Gervais as the worst Doctor in the world), and it's pretty darn great. I'm not really sure what you'd call the show, it has bits of a sitcom about it, and yet it's sort of sketch like, albeit he's playing the same guy, a version of himself, at all times, and then there are the chunks of him doing stand up. Whatever it is, it's great and well worth seeking out.

Seconded. Louis CK is probably the funniest stand up on the planet right now. No, I haven't seen them all.

Bo.

These shows are amazing, from the Intro sequence, the stand up bits and especially the 7 minute Cold Open poker game ... great stuff.

Watched three episodes last night. Raised a few smiles, Louis C.K is likable enough but there wasn't any laugh-out-loud moments for me. The stand-up was the funniest bit, but like watching any standup short clips you don't get the full effect. Won't be watching again.

Well boo to you, Sir! Boo!

Expect I'll have to wait for the DVD release.

I love how completely over the top Gervais is in that, just howling away after he delivers each line.

Not in that clip, but funny:

Dr Gervais: "You got the AIDS from raping little blind boys"

I watched an episode of this on Saturday night. It was the "whip it out" episode and I found it very funny. It's certainly funnier than Lucky Louie was.

"How do I smell?"

"Like Dying."

Good stuff again this week.

This week's episode was great... "Don't bite down".

When I saw this thread, I thought people were talking about this Louie...

I'm slightly disappointed. And completely out of touch.

I laughed at a lot of the stuff, but in the end it has got just too disturbing for me.

Yea, some of it was pretty hard to watch. IMO what's so great about this show compared to Lucky Louie is how much sharper everything is. The funny is much funnier and the depressing/weird/awkward bits cut deeper.

Now this is a show where I think you can open up a proper debate as to whether or not it's a sitcom (if indeed it even purports to be). Certainly it really plays with the format. Sometimes the show feels like a couple of long, unrelated sketches that culminate in absurd payoffs, sometimes the show plays out like a drama (the comedy coming principally from the stand-up scenes). I watched one yesterday where Louie is threatened by a frat boy on a date that hardly registered as a comedy at all. Very enjoyable though.
