Comedy Records Page 30

Do you all actually own these records, or is this just a gallery?

i own some of the records.

It would nice if some of these were available digitally, he said knowingly... Eh, nudge nudge. Wink, wink.

I think Agnes Guano could perhaps boast of having one of the largest collections of comedy records. Cannae recall whether he once mentioned that he's digitized them. Ye should ask. It's a rum do in Asia now, where tapes predominated records (as few folks had relatively costly record players). Just about any old piece of crap record is now being flogged as an antique. Even cassettes are being sold at dumb prices as retro collectibles.

What's a record cost in a charity shop in the UK now? 10p? 50p? More?

I mean for free like. :) Pirate Whistling nnocently

I mean, Mr Agnes G. ought to be able to field such queries and praps provide the digitized stuff.

:) Well, he posts in this thread quite a bit, so hopefully he'll see this conversation. :)

Who me? I've digitised a hell of a lot of them and they all sort of live on computer's hard drive and mp3 player. I pop a few records into my blog every month (link in my signature) and nab a track or two to put on Soundcloud - https://soundcloud.com/agnes-guano. Anything more complicated than that needs money spending on it, which sadly I don't have as most of it seems to go on beer and old records.

Speaking of which, here is what I found this month...

Rolf Harris - Football Crazy:

Mike Harding - Disco Vampire:

And to end on a high, Those Barking Dogs:

I'm envious. Of the last one especially.

As a cartoonist, I'm very disturbed by the Rolf Harris disc - all the footballers have exactly the same face.

One of my relatives had all the Monty Python records and one of them 'The Monty Python Matching Tie and Handkerchief' was jokingly meant to be a 'free gift' that you got if you bought the handkerchief and tie. It was also '3 sided' in that depending on where you put the needle, depended on what material you would hear. Also to confuse the 'listener' both sides were labelled side 2. That was always my favourite.

Indeed. As with their books, the Pythons really pulled out the stops on their records from the packaging and the album cover to the tracks themselves. They play with sound and studio effects more than any comedy album before or since and really exploit the medium to its fullest. I think some of the best realised examples of the Pythons' sketches are to be found on their original studio albums.
