Super 8. Very enjoyable homage to eighties blockbusters.

A little bit darker than those 80s blockbusters if I remember it well. A nice ride.

Drive.

Horrible, horrible film.

Couldn't disagree more - one of my favourites of the year.

I don't know, some of those eighties Blockbusters were pretty dark. Something like Gremlins had a pretty black streak in it.

Succinct, but wholly accurate.

I didn't mind Drive, but not sure if I'd watch it again.

I started watching American Movie last night, but fell asleep as I was knackered. I've been meaning to watch it since I witnessed Stott and Bussell almost coming to blows over whether it was real or staged. Will finish it off tonight as I liked what I saw of the somewhat bloody minded protagonist. His reckless determination makes even some of the BCG writers look like pussycats.

I liked the music, but the movie was just unnecessarily grim and pointless.

They were obviously going for moody in the first half, but I just found all the silence and smirking irritating.

Gosling was miscast and his character was wholly unrealistic. He's showed in other movies that he can handle dialogue brilliantly, so why not give him something to say in this one?

It's one thing to be a strong silent type, but to just stand there refusing to engage in conversation with people for no good reason is verging on autism.

The second half of the film, when the plot begins, just seemed to be an excuse to wipe out the entire cast in a series of spunk-the-budget gory FX shots.

Unnecessarily nasty and not nearly as clever as it thought it was.

But yes, the music was nice.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Read the book quite recently or I'd never have followed it. Too complicated to make into a film.

Oh, I thought he was great. I seem to remember him generally being singled out for a lot of praise, too.

Fast & Furious. The fourth in the F&F franchise and The Diesal's back. Great stuff.

I hated it so much loud, artless and none of the charm of the films it was supposedly imitating.

Nope, it was excellent. It took a paper thin Hollywood action plot and turned it into a moody and nicely paced European arthouse flick.
