This starts tomorrow tonight (Friday, 10pm, C4). It's worth checking out - there's a couple of duds, but with such a refreshingly fast pace (three or four sketches a minute) they're quickly swept aside by a larger quantity of quality sketches. Watch out for the age of consent rap, Stephen Hawking's new wheels and Simon Cowell's brother Brian.
See our guide for more info, a trailer and an exclusive interview with Kevin Bishop.
Love the interview!
I can't wait for this. I really liked the pilot especially LOTSW USA. Kevin Bishop is very talented. Also, great interview. Thanks.
I really enjoyed the pilot. He's a great mimic - hopefully the series will keep up the high standard.
The Harry Hill bit on the advert is very funny.
Genuinely one of the nicest guys I've met. Not sure exactly how it comes across to others in the interview, but he sounds proper Cockeny stylee, really friendly genuine guy.
Aw!
He was on Charlotte Church tonight.
I missed it though, of course.
First time I have put a face to the name, he seems a nice guy - Charlotte C interviewing Jonathan Ross was embarrassing though.
I saw that bit!
I quite liked it when he was saying, for no apparent reason, why he wouldn't cheat on his wife.
It was sweet, but a bit weird.
She seems to believe that swearing a lot is good interview technique and JR just joined in.
The previews I've read about this show are pretty ominous. Lab Rats ominous.
I loved Kevin Bishop when he was in Spoons and the material was good, but I thought his pilot for this was very weak. I will give it another go or two, but I'm not expecting much.
Kevin Bishop's okay, but there's something lightweight about him.

I liked the pilot, so I'm looking forward to this; I think TV really needs a good sketch show, there's been too many ropey ones over the last few years.
Oh God, I'd forgotten about this one.
sooty's going to hate the show.
Some funny stuff, some not funny stuff. It's good, if a little too fast.
I missed boys kissing.
Early thoughts..
It's surprisingly original! I didn't catch the pilot, but the first episode already has me laughing! The Tim Westwood and Stephen Hawking sketch really made me laugh! It has new ideas for what is a linear genre in comedy.
It has high potential to do well!

Ha! Indiana Jones thing! like a visual one-liner!

Ah. I changed the channel at that point. And having not seen ANY of the films spoofed, it didn't make an impression at the screening.
I can't believe Kevin didn't baggsy being Indy for himself!
I would have.
Liked the R Kelly music video

The doctor one, probably the longest sketch there, was awful. Big mistake to include it IMO.
Which was the doctor sketch?
Very good. Excellent to finally see a sketch show that makes me laugh out loud, and want more when it's finished. Must have good writers.

Really enjoyed it; had me laughing like a fool several times; much, much more then any recent sketch show. I especially liked the bit with actors auditioning, like Al Pacino doing Superman. Will be interesting to see if the quality keeps up, as a lot of sketch shows tend to nose dive after an episode or two; I hope it does becuase the pilot and this first episode have both been great.
I was once told by an apparent comedy professional that mock adverts just don't work on comedy sketch shows, but I thought they worked really well on this show? Esp the Sienna Miller/Gordon Brown perfumes .
The Gordon Brown one was particularly ace.
Yeah, they were good.
Quote: Jenuff @ July 26 2008, 1:30 AM BSTI was once told by an apparent comedy professional that mock adverts just don't work on comedy sketch shows.
Of course, as comedy is so individually subjective and at the mercy of the socio-economic climate under which it is watched at any one point, one could argue that ANY such statement regarding humour is stupid.
But that's a whole different thread again.
I liked it, especially the Jonathan Ross sketches taking the mickey out of him and Ricky Gervais. Very Fast Show like in terms of it structure.

Well, that was the biggest load of schoolboy bollox I have ever witnessed in a primetime slot. It really was not funny at all. It reminded me of the stuff most 14 yr olds do when they get thier hands on a video camera, except that...it was devoid of any talent whatsoever. This guy doesn't do ONE convincing mimic...that wouldnt be so bad if the content of the mimic sketch was any good but sadly it isn't. I understand he's getting married today, good luck to him I hope his Mrs is earning a decent living because he doesnt appear to have much of one.
I can't believe that CH4 comissioned a whole series of this expensive rubbish when there are so many great truely funny people on the London comedy scene who blow this spoled bratt out of the water in the first 5 seconds of thier act.
Total rubbish! I am dumbfounded at CH4.

One or two flops, but that's inevitable.
Great stuff, can't wait for next week's.
I assume Gary has some reason for the slating above; it seemed a tad on the personel and over the top side to me. I suppose we'll see if he actually carries on posting on here. 'Spoiled Brat' is an especially odd thing to say; unles he knows him or something. Smacks of jealousy.

I like Kevin Bishop, I like the guy who plays Gerard in Peep Show, but this series was said to have been written in six weeks. It looks like it. You only write shows in six weeks if you don't chuck out all the duff bits.
Made a good point about Ross and Gervais, though probably could have been sharper with that too.

The ticking arms was probably the best bit, visually.
Ticking arms?
Uhm. Not sure how to describe it. Wait for the sketch to appear on YouTube I guess!
I liked it. Thought there were some hit and miss bits but the hits had me laughing out loud and the misses were so slow it didn't really matter. It was bloody fast though -- much faster than even The Fast Show!
And I did think 'F**k me, she *really* looks like Jodie Marsh!' and there, in the credits, 'special appearance by Jodie Marsh'. Kudos to her for a) a great performance and b) willing to laugh at herself.
Agree with the one-poster about Kevin mimicry at times though; some of his impressions are rubbish, but it kind of adds to the laughs tbh!
Will be watching this series to the end, I suspect.

Nothing personal at all. He just came accross on charlotte Church as a spoled bratt. Sorry i really didnt find any of it funny as simple as that and it made me extremely angry that CH4 has f**ked up again.
If you enjoyed it good for you. Sorry needed to vent and short of complaining to C4 I did a search on reviews this morning to see if I was going mental or it really was as flat as I thought it was. This place and this thread came up in the search. Sorry if I offended but it really got my goat.

I didn't really like the show at all, it did make me raise a smile on the rare occasion (ie the Westwood and Stephen Hawkins bit) but I didn't actually laugh once. I also think that the Jonathan Ross part was worn out after the third of fourth time.
I am not going to say it was terrible because it wasn't but I feel it needs improving a lot before I will start liking it.
I'm surprised this show is getting so much bumluv here (except from zooo, who doles out bumluv like it's going out of fashion
). It was very similar to Star Stories and Bo Selecta, but even more poorly written, with some pretty lame and predictable sketches. A badly written thirty second sketch is still a badly written sketch.
Hey! I'm not having that! *Nothing* is 'worse than Bo' Selecta'.
I will let you have 'almost as bad as...', but not 'worse'.
Dan
I thought it was another hit and miss comedy. There were some strong sketches in there but some that were not as good. There are a lot of sketches though aren't there?

The last Sketch Show I saw an episode of was from Titty Titty Bang Bang Series 3. Compared to that, this is the Shakespeare of comedy. I actually laughed. More than once. The Really High School Musical was fab.
I felt I had seen it all before and there were some really bad sketches like the vampire and three bears one. I'm really surprised so many people liked it.

Missed the show on TV but I've watched some sketches on YouTube. I'd have to go with the prevalent 'hit and miss' opinion. I was especially irked that one of the sketches used the '28 gays Later' idea I've used as a title for an episode of one of my sitcoms.

Yeah I'm going to go with what most people have said about it and say it was hit and miss. Although, I am going to add that it didn't get any big laughs from me at all, just plenty chuckles. The whole impersonation thing doesn't really do anything for me 90% of the time.
I don't think the impersonations are suppose to be spot on. They're more like caricatures surely. Like Bo Selecta. Agree it's hit & miss though.

So the premise of this show is to reflect how television has evolved into a multitude of digital channels hence creating a nation of bored channel hoppers.

I preferred the second episode of KB, the first half was very funny, the second a bit hit and miss again. Highlights were Harry Hill as a doctor, Dwarf TV and the red button for porn sketches. Much better, so I'll keep watching.

I caught this last night for the first time. It was pretty good!
It didn't make me roar with laughter, but there was a lot of sniggering going on.
I liked Ross Kemp on Drugs, Harry Hill and Dwarf TV.
I'll be watching tonight.
Oh, now that 'Legal' scent was just inspired.
I wasn't that impressed tonight.
He did a fair few drugs references which got repetitive.
I only really liked the Bruce Forsyth Die Hard sketch.
Does anyone else see hints of Bo Selecta in this or is it just me?
No, I thought it was the weakest of the three so far. Still some laughs, and the odd glimmer of genius (see previous post), but on the whole kinda disappointing.
I watched this for the first time tonight.
There were some funny moments and the idea of if there's no punchline, no matter, just switch to another sketch proves you don't need a punchline if you can get away with it.
Mind you, I did get rather peeved personally at the satellite channel hopping idea as I tried to pitch a channel hopping sketch show to Channel 4 a while back, but they didn't like the idea.
"Maybe we'll do something like that AFTER the digital switchover when everyone has satellite TV and then everyone can relate to it" was part of their reply.
It is very hit and miss, but I think the main problem I have with this is that there is just something very slappable about Kevin Bishop.
I thought this last episode was well below par. Only a couple of good sketches and a lot of poor ones. 11 writers on the show too.
I watched this not yesterday, but the Friday before. Actually, quite liked it - especially the Ross Kemp bits.
Well I seem to be the only one who thought it was ace again.
Loved the Jesus Christ sketch. Had a few lol moments for me, and lots of titters.
Which reminds me, also loved the University Challenge.
"It's a pair of tits, you bloody geeks"
Yeah, the Jesus Christ sketches were good.
As were the University Challenge ones and the Catchphrases No Longer Socially Acceptable.
The rest I found were fillers.
Channel 4 should produce that Jesus Christ sitcom - I'd watch!

I thought it was a bit weak again. Some good ones, but some really pretty mediocre.
Much better than last weeks. I liked the Sugababes sketch, Harrow Harrow, Guantanamo Baywatch and the Pun Detective. "She's popped her clogs," ha. One of the only sketches I wasn't keen on was the 9/11 playset. Overall it was good.

Oh - and the 'Nursery Crime Squad' with the enchanted mirror - "I ain't saying nuffink without my lawyer". Top.

What a load of bollox. Not funny, and the gag about the guy found dead with ice cream on his head 'has topped himself' was sent round our office emails in about 1994.

..... a nervous wreck
Wit isn't the be-all and end-all.
When the dead man was lying on the floor covered in ice cream/hundreds & thousands, and the pun detective said "I think it's obvious what happened here. He topped himself"......I nearly fell off my chair with laughter.
Also (and I'm not even remotely racist) the bit where it showed a picture of a black man accompanied by text saying "Coming up next.......Black Adder" had me in stitches.
I think, despite a few duds, the delivery and timing of some of the lines in Kevin Bishop's sketches are excellent. Am liking the show so far, definitely. Walken's Crisps and the Brucie Die Hard sketches in the earlier episode were both mint too.
I think this week was.. well weak! The 9/11 sketch was so bad and unoriginal.. how many kids do you think have already done that with lego bricks and their finger!
It's just not really a topic that should be touched. Hopefully better next week!

Now, if you care to rant about Lab Rats, there won't be much disagreement.
The last episode was broadcast on Thursday evening, but it's still on iPlayer of course, and no doubt YouTube.
But if you don't like The Kevin Bishop Show, then Lab Rats will make you instantly kill the nearest person to you.

I liked the 9/11 sketch, thought it was funny. Out of bounds? Feck off.
This show has become one of my favourite things on telly at the mo, love it.
A mate's university banned Giant Jenga from the Students Union after 9/11.
Unbelieveable.
What a load of bollocks!

I was a fan of this show but the last two episodes have been very poor in my opinion. The David Starky clips were just pointless after the first one.
There were some really lazy jokes 'Doherty - addiction', original? No. And the Bill Oddie - Tit one was so obvious.
The 'topped himself' sketch made me laugh but not a lot else. I think episode two had me in tears, in comparison.
Kevin Bishop is a fantastic performer, just needs better or more consistent material.
I hear it's on AGAIN tonight.
U LUV IT!
Quote: kevinbishopshowiscrap @ August 22 2008, 9:42 PM BSTI hear it's on AGAIN tonight.
Enjoyed the Gay Pretender clips & (strangely) the rock climbing one.. "Don't look down, don't look down" *looks down* "FUUUUCCCKK!!!"
Quote: Aaron @ August 22 2008, 10:02 PM BSTThat is what tends to happen half-way through a series.
Awww little Hitlers.
This was great. So good there's something consistantly funny on TV at the mo.
Well, it's just finished and I've never seen anything unfunnier - EVER!
I can't even remember any of the gags to quote. Am I the only person that think this is UTTER RUBBISH ?????????????
At least Nicole got evicted.
Ha ha, I love it when someone watches something repeatedly just to slag it off. "I wonder if fire is hot...yep it is. Hmmm. Let's try again...ouch, I burnt myself. Surely it can't be a third time..."
Was that the last one of the series?
Dunno. *Channels Mark* If you go to our new BCG website it'll tell you what you want to know.
Haha!
No, next week's is the last episode I believeee.
Let's hope they do the blind date sketch again next week.
And the 'gay' bloke in a nightclub.
That was hillarious.
"It's hard 'cause I need a wee. A big gay wee." ha. I really like the other guys Bob Geldof impression.
'You, give me your f**king money. Oh, f**k off.'

The last episode was slightly better than the one before but there were still a lot of sketches that missed the mark for me.
Love love love this show. I wish it had a bit of a longer run, it's one of the few shows I really look forward to seeing.
The Gay Pretender was ace, Blind Date was good too.

Hubba hubba to Bill Oddies wife & her lingerie.
I love this show. Shittingly funny.
Cripes, Karen Gillan in suspenders. Ah well, she can always PM me if she reads these forums. Please. Pretty please. I won't leave my computer until she PMs.
I saw her first! Hands off Si.
Next on 'ooo arrr'
She hasn't PM'ed.
Nil, you're so late that if you were a woman I'd advise a pregnancy test. Check out all the previous posts.
My only complaint about this show, is the fact that it relies on puns to get laughs, in so many of the sketches.
Shant. *crosses arms in a huff*.
I like the 'ooo-arrr' one too. The Cornish are real yokels eh?
Is it wrong I really want to watch Little Hitler, the Afgan Allo Allo and the Fred West musical now?
(Oh yeah, and Si has a point - Ms Gillan in suspenders - I'm all a fluster now!)

How many beers have you had?
Maybe the question should be...how much money did they make?
Enough to by a brand new combine harvester anyhow & maybe some new wellies.
That's exactly how much a season ticket to City costs.

I've just realised where I've seen Kevin Bishop before. He's in a film called L'Auberge Espanole about a group of young Europeans staying in a hostel in Barcelona. He plays the British character who is a drunken, ignorant idiot, which pretty much shows us what our European friends think of us (probably rightly).
Death is the only punishment suitable for people who have the temerity to criticise The Kevin Bishop Show.
Great series, even though I only caught a couple of episodes. It's what that Adam Buxton pilot should have been. Very astute and, most importantly, fast. That girl is very foxy, too.
Yep, loved it. Seems to have been received well by many people, so hopefully a second series will emerge at some point.
Wider Man choosing pie sale over chasing criminals < LOL
Did like the series but felt it getting a little tired towards the end. Maybe it's too much for me to take, that many quick sketches per episode. High gag rate though. Not necessarily funny all the time, but quick enough to know that there's another gag just around the corner, which is a good thing.
Dan
I am flabbergasted at the praise this show has got. I hated it with a passion myself and only kept watching it because a)Not much else on b)That guy does a fairly decent Christopher Walken and c)Maybe I just like watching sketch shows that I hate so I can moan and throw things at the screen....
Hmmm, oh well, I for one hope that it won't get a second series as I'll only end up watching every episode and hating myself every time I do.
Even reading that and be reminded of 'They're my f**king crisps' makes me laugh though...
Dan
This show was O.K but I hated the Radiohead pisstake sketch. That was really cheap.
Second series commissioned by Andrew Newman, somewhere in this story:
