Does anyone know anything about this show apart from what's on the front of this site?
COMEDY: Delta Forever
On: BBC Three
Date: Monday 19th May 2008
Time: 23:00 to 23:30
Comedy pilot about the obsessive online fans of a series of novels about teen-hero Delta, whose lives revolve around an unofficial fan-site on which they meet and greet, rubbish their rivals and generally show off. The film studio holds a secret preview screening in London of the first movie adaptation of the beloved Delta series.
Actually sounds worryingly like us lot, in a way. :-/
(That's all I got.)
After placebo and admin maybe its 3rd time lucky? Although I'm no fan of "wacky situation" instead of descent writing so who knows.
I found this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2r_Hs27qdk
Edit: IMO the trailer isn't funny. The only good thing about it is Antonia Campbell-Hughes, and she doesn't even speak. Heh.
hmmmmmm.
what was it? won't let me view it in Ireland
I got bored halfway through the clip, which doesn't bode well. And it looks like yet another addition to the increasingly big kidcom category.
Looks a bit poo.
Some nice comments on the Harry Potter screen conversion, but that just wasn't funny. I think I sniggered twice through the episode, with another one or two during the closing credits. Evidently having a writing team doesn't ensure a good show.
Just ... Not funny. Don't think there's anything more that can be said.
Quote: Aaron @ May 19 2008, 11:41 PM BSTEvidently having a writing team doesn't ensure a good show.
Best of the 3 (placebo/admin/this) but still not great - some nice moments of dialogue (last 30 secs!) but a wacky plot that distracted.
It was all right. Some funny lines!
I liked the idea.
It might have worked better if they were obsessed with a real book/film rather than the invented one. I dunno.

indeed - if it got a series how does episode 2 work? none of the characters have any tie to each other????
Quote: Aaron @ May 19 2008, 11:51 PM BSTIt just didn't feel like it had direction. And all of that weird makeup? I'm sorry, but no. It had no one setting so didn't really work as a sitcom, and apart from people hating a movie of a book, there didn't seem to be any story. Just didn't work at all for me.

Quote: David Chapman @ May 20 2008, 12:41 AM BSTThat's the sort of writing I'm good at.
Hated it, weak uninteresting characters stumbling through a very old comedy trope.
The old we need a ticket urgently.
Unlikeable characters, with poor cliched lines.
And if you're mocking a subject, get the source material right (check out Galaxy Quest). I didn't see the Delta books as anything other than a cheap McGuffin.
That girl, who was also in Lead Balloon, has got to be one of the most annoying people on T.V.
Fun, but not funny.
Ophelia Lovibond. Great name (and pout at the end).
Missing apostrophe on the 'Its Shite' sign.
I think I might be going against the trend here but there wasn't much about this that I didn't like. By far the best of the bunch so far, interesting direction and really strong performances all round. Scots bloke was outstanding.
As to it's legs, it's just a boy chases girl story - character based. The Delta sci fi stuff is kinda irrelevant and if that isn't front of stage for the eps I don't see a problem really. Single camera so they can stick it where they like really.
And I did laugh out loud a few times.
Okay, but nothing special. And I did find myself watching the clock almost as much as the screen when it was on.
Of all three pilots, I'm going to go against the trend and state that despite its lack of stylistic direction, Placebo was by far the superior.
Placebo was probably the most interesting idea, fluffed by crude writing and dreary acting. There is still a great comedy to be made out of the idea of drugs testing trials.
But the crudity was what made it funny! I would be THOROUGHLY disheartened if it made a full series and dropped that.
I'd forgot about making any of three into a series. None struck me as having that much potential.
That is, however, very true.
Is that it for pilots now? Just those three? Or are there more to come?

Quote: M Lewis @ May 20 2008, 11:00 AM BSTA choclate teapot then .... a show about nothing much can be great with a good script but the most interesting premise is pointless if its all it has. You dont need wacky situations to be funny, you need to be funny.
Quote: chipolata @ May 20 2008, 11:00 AM BSTIs that it for pilots now? Just those three? Or are there more to come?
Quote: chipolata @ May 20 2008, 11:05 AM BSTI just think there is great comic mileage in people allowing themselves to test drugs for money.
Quote: Aaron @ May 20 2008, 11:06 AM BSTNope, more to come. Next week is a sketch show called Barely Legal, and after that is Torn Up Tales. Apparently.
Barely Legal?
Has JK done the theme tune to that?
Quote: chipolata @ May 20 2008, 11:08 AM BSTI've got some videos called Barely Legal. I hope it's as good as them.
Isn't Barely Legal the sketch show with performers as young as 12 or something? I remember reading something about it yonks ago.
I think they're called something else...
Aren't they?

A-ha, found it! Posted on the actual site: http://www.sitcom.co.uk/news/news.php?story=000395
Horay for google. Once again I can't wait for Alice Lowe's sketch show.
Wow, they are called Barely Legal.
And look at how much Delta Forever changed!
I love Alice Lowe too.
looks like delta forever's writers had to find some room round the table! pretty sure it listed 4 or 5 in the crdits last night?
It did including the director and I guess the two original writers credited in the first news release. It obviously changed a lot on the way to getting broadcast.
I really, really liked this. laughed out loud several times, plenty of storylines developing. great acting. love to see more. nice to see something so stylistic too.

Oh good, it's not just me then.

was that Miranda?
Yes, I think so. The woman who 'wasn't a fan' but ran the website or something.
went over my head...why was she not a fan if she was blogging the whole thing?
She was a bit of a cock. Didn't want to be associated with the rabid internet fans.
She probably was a fan.
Only a 'bit'? Was there anything redeeming or positive at all about her character?
I liked her pyjamas.
Quote: M Lewis @ May 20 2008, 1:13 PM BSTwent over my head...
I just didnt get it - if she runs a fan site wouldnt she be the biggest geek of all? i dont think i've ever met anyone who ran or moderated on an internet site about anything that wasnt 200% geek in the real world!
I think that's part of the irony mr lewis. She's in denial about being a fan, but ultimately she is the biggest geek of the lot of them.
It's a nice character though. I think she runs the site because she needs to feel important.

I got exactly 5:52 in and had to stop. It is poo.
Of the three I prefer Admin, but to be honest that isn't saying much as they're all a bit shite.
I much prefer Black Books(which is new to me
).
Quote: Mark @ May 20 2008, 6:48 PM BSTI hate comedy. And I'm not a geek either. Honest.
As for the episode itself - I thought it was ok, the romance angle was quite sweet. But I have to say I can't see how they'd take it from here if they were given a full series. (six conventions?)
Watched about 10 minutes before I switched off, the concept sounded quite good but it was just drivel. Where the hell were the jokes?
Sitcom doesn't have to be about jokes. Think Love Soup for the younger generation.
And the older.
Again, can't quote in here right now, so Mark:
More than a Radcliffe mention. The artwork of the film was similar to the HP films, and totally different to the books. Also they ranted about changing the title to pander to stupid American audiences.
I quite liked the pilot! Not many actual laughter moments, but I found it amusing.
One could be forgiven for mistaking you for the main character, what with the glowy super-white skinned picture!

Shower of Piss? Is that another film or something I've not heard about, or is it an attack on a Harry Potter title?
Not the first time (by a long shot) people have said I look like him though!

If that's the colour of your piss, I would advise a trip to the doctor!
Bwahaah!
