COMEDY: Delta Forever
On: BBC Three
Date: Monday 19th May 2008
Time: 23:00 to 23:30

Comedy pilot about the obsessive online fans of a series of novels about teen-hero Delta, whose lives revolve around an unofficial fan-site on which they meet and greet, rubbish their rivals and generally show off. The film studio holds a secret preview screening in London of the first movie adaptation of the beloved Delta series.

Actually sounds worryingly like us lot, in a way. :-/

(That's all I got.)

Some nice comments on the Harry Potter screen conversion, but that just wasn't funny. I think I sniggered twice through the episode, with another one or two during the closing credits. Evidently having a writing team doesn't ensure a good show.

Just ... Not funny. Don't think there's anything more that can be said.

Best of the 3 (placebo/admin/this) but still not great - some nice moments of dialogue (last 30 secs!) but a wacky plot that distracted.

It just didn't feel like it had direction. And all of that weird makeup? I'm sorry, but no. It had no one setting so didn't really work as a sitcom, and apart from people hating a movie of a book, there didn't seem to be any story. Just didn't work at all for me.

Hated it, weak uninteresting characters stumbling through a very old comedy trope.

The old we need a ticket urgently.

Unlikeable characters, with poor cliched lines.

And if you're mocking a subject, get the source material right (check out Galaxy Quest). I didn't see the Delta books as anything other than a cheap McGuffin.

I think I might be going against the trend here but there wasn't much about this that I didn't like. By far the best of the bunch so far, interesting direction and really strong performances all round. Scots bloke was outstanding.

As to it's legs, it's just a boy chases girl story - character based. The Delta sci fi stuff is kinda irrelevant and if that isn't front of stage for the eps I don't see a problem really. Single camera so they can stick it where they like really.

And I did laugh out loud a few times.

Of all three pilots, I'm going to go against the trend and state that despite its lack of stylistic direction, Placebo was by far the superior.

Placebo was probably the most interesting idea, fluffed by crude writing and dreary acting. There is still a great comedy to be made out of the idea of drugs testing trials.

A chocolate teapot then .... a show about nothing much can be great with a good script but the most interesting premise is pointless if its all it has. You dont need wacky situations to be funny, you need to be funny.

Nope, more to come. Next week is a sketch show called Barely Legal, and after that is Torn Up Tales. Apparently.

COMEDY: Barely Legal
On: BBC Three
Date: Monday 26th May 2008
Time: 23:00 to 23:30

Sketch show pilot in which hot new comic performers Ellie Bird, Joe Da Costa, David Hayler, Sophie McCabe, Dominique Moore and Ekow Quartey embrace a shedload of ridiculous scenarios. Includes the man with the Top 5 for everything, the world's first game of strip hangman and the reason not to jump for joy when your girlfriend wants to watch a porn film.

I've met loads like that, they get the job because they just know someone. I thought it wasn't bad, but I'm not sure where it was going or where it can go from here.

I hate comedy. And I'm not a geek either. Honest. ;)

Of all the characters I did feel she was the least believable. For a while I thought the plot was leading to her and the black guy falling for each other - hence the girl outside could then get it, but I must have mis-read that.

As for the episode itself - I thought it was ok, the romance angle was quite sweet. But I have to say I can't see how they'd take it from here if they were given a full series. (six conventions?)

They owe the Harry Potter phenomenon a lot though! Still, they did give a knowing nod by mentioning Daniel Radcliffe so I'll let them off.

I didn't see Delta Forever, but I do think Antonia Campbell-Hughes is extremely talented, as is her LB co-star Rasmus Hardiker. I've a hunch we will be looking back in ten years' time at Lead Balloon as a hotbed of fresh acting/comedy talent.
