Katy Brand's Big Ass Show

Katy Brand's Big Ass Show: potentially ITV's first hit sketch show for a long time, or another dud?

It starts next month. Pre-judge it now:

Lilly Allen spoof (Windows Media Player video - warning some strong language)*

Binge drinking sketch (Windows Media Player video).

More about the show

I thought the Lilly Allen sketch was great - if that attention to detail and budget is retained through out the show it could be a winner IMHO.

(If you are wondering who Katy Brand is you might recognise her from Comedy Cuts or the never-going-to-be-funny Tittybangbang.)

* The full version of the song is on YouTube. Love the lyrics: "I can't help it if I grew up on a council estate, well when I say 'grew up' I didn't grow up but I've been to one... well I've walked past one".

I saw her comedy lab episode, which had some good bits, and some very bad bits. The only clip Ive watched of this so far featured an army character she also did in that episode, which was crap in that and was crap in the clip CHORTLE were showing. Still, I look forward to having a peek at this as there was plenty of good material too. She did a great mental Kate Winslet I seem to remember.

I guess there's a Lily Allen video I haven't seen, and song I haven't heard, 'cos that one just flew straight over my head.

One good line in the army one.

My prediction based on those two clips (which, as ever, will be the best in the eyes of the producers, which says a lot) is that it's going to be 100% unadulterated shite.

But I could be proved wrong...

I thought it was pretty good, well acted, preferred the binge drinking sketch. 'up yer bum'. I'll probably check it out when it's on.

I think that the Lily Allen spoof has been done far better by 'LDN Is A Victim' - 'It's a middle class, art school thing, so put on you common accents and let's all sing.' Still, it's hardly vicious satire.

i was unfortunate enough to watch a bit of katy brand's show the other night. it was worse than adam and shelley. it was worse than tittybangbang. what the hell is going on?

I've only seen bits and pieces, but I thought it was okay. Hit and miss, like they all are at the moment, but not as bad as tittybangbang.
I like her Kate Winslet.

She was being Melvyn Bragg talking to some drug users I think. I felt a bit ill at the lack of anything in it at all. No funny words.
I'd do that Kate Winslett too zooo.

Caught a bit of this on ITV (what was it doing there?) last night. Is this what it's come to? Showing a series and then doing a best of compilation? Here's an idea. Why not write the best as one show and then do another five? It was dreadful anyway.

There was a sketch on there about Jennifer Aniston having a film called 'I'm Fine'. That was it. Presumably Aniston has said this a bit for them to get the idea, but does that really mean we should have a two minute sketch of her saying it? *rolleyes* The British sitcoms and sketch shows are in an appalling state.

I assume that's about Brad Pitt leaving her for Angelina Jolie. The idea is kind of funny.
Don't think I've seen it though.

If I was Brad Pitt, that's certainly not the way I would have gone. :-/

Just watching it now... quite amusing watching them take the mickey out of the bands/singers.

I heard her on Jonathan Ross's radio show on Saturday and she seemed like a nice, personable girl. Her show's pretty shit, though. Lame satire about people we already hear far too much about anyway. Then again, I'm not really part of the demographic they're aiming for.

She was on his telly chat show last year, and she seemed thoroughly charming and lovely.

But did she not get hugely pissy and offensive online towards a group of people who'd criticised the show? Or was that someone else...?

Not sure about that.

By a 'group of people' do you mean 'the whole world'?

Either way, I still think she's lovely. I mean 'pissy and offensive online' - sounds like my ideal partner.

On Monday 8th September 2008 GMT at 7:59 PM GMT, Aaron said:

No, I mean a specific few people on one site who vocalised their dislike of the show (in nowhere near as ferocious terms as people do here).

I'm really enjoying this series - the musical spoofs are always excellent - such high production values, especially considering this is on ITV2.

It's a shame it's so tucked away, it deserves more exposure. After all, I think it's better than 90%/100% of the sketch shows BBC Three have put out this year.

I really like the Royal girls sketch, with erm... the two teenage royals. I can't remember their names.

And the Kate Moss etc at school, bullying ginger Stella MaCartney.
