:( :( :( :( :( :|

Terrible shame he was a genius, though looking at your avater next to sir TP Bill maybe you can start collecting his royalty cheques?

Very sad, :( met him once when he came to the school I work at. Lovely man who fronted an excellent documentary a few years back on Dignitas "Choosing to Die" ...........

Actually, still one more Discworld...

RIP

But isn't there a man in the chip shop who swears he's Pratchett?

A Discworld novel could always be relied on as an escape from whatever was troubling me, while also shifting my perspective. I shall miss him terribly.

I think I've only ever read one Pratchett book, but he always seemed a delightfully charming chap.

I never actually got into Discworld. There was something about them I couldn't get my head round.

Anyway RIP. What exactly did he die of because I don't think anyone actually dies of Alzheimers.

Alzheimer's is brain failure, to put it simply. So your organs, controlled by the brain also fail. Eg. Stroke, heart failure, etc.

It's annoying that the fan bases are already saying "Oh Rhianna can write them. We can still have the Discworld."

She's much happier writing computer programs, to be honest. But the money will mean it still continues, probably to its detriment.

Sherlock Holmes, James Bond, outliving your creator does characters no favours. And probably the same for Rincewind, Weatherwax, Death, Librarian, et al.

One would like to believe that at the last he heard SOMETHING LIKE THIS.

Why was Death saying SOMETHING LIKE THIS?

Don't worry, you've probably watched or read something which has nicked his ideas.

Terry chats to Cixen at a summer CiX barbeque meet.

{CiX is a bulletin board system, which was the first major on-line discussion system in the UK and has existed since 1987 (?); before the Internet in the UK. Indeed some Cixen founded Demon and brought dial-up internet to the UK}

The actual announcement when he died was presumably prearranged by him with his assistant; a 'story' in 4 twitter messages.

I nearly caught a glimpse of Terry Pratchett way back in 1995. He was doing an appearance at Forbidden Planet on Tottenham Court Road, but I was there a few hours before he arrived.

I think it might have been his daughter that put those tweets up for him. But either way was a very nice prearranged ending.
