The Comedy.co.uk Awards
The Comedy.co.uk Awards (previously known as The British Comedy Guide Awards) is an annual poll of thousands of British comedy fans to find the best and worst TV and radio comedy programmes of the year.
These awards provide an accurate gauge of what is good and what is bad in modern British comedy as every single eligible programme is included in the nominations list (for our 2009 vote that was over 250 different shows!), and the results are 100% based on the public vote - there is no biased jury or naive judging panel involved here - just the fans.

The Comedy.co.uk Awards 2009Armando Iannucci's political satire The Thick Of It was named the Comedy Of 2009. Whilst Psychoville, Peep Show, Mitchell & Webb, and QI were amongst the other winners. Meanwhile down the other end of the list, the voting showed viewers hated Big Top and Horne & Corden. |

The Comedy.co.uk Awards 2008According to the results of our poll, in 2008 The Inbetweeners was easily the best new comedy of the year, whilst Coming Of Age was the show most people hated. The battle for the big award, the title of 'comedy of the year', was between Outnumbered and Peep Show. |

How does the voting work?
Each year in January we open the polls and thousands logon to select their favourite shows. Every British comedy show that had at least one new episode broadcast between the 1st January and 31st December in the year is included in the nominations list (unless it spanned the New Year period, in which case it'll only be nominated in the first of the two years). In each of the 8 categories, those voting can choose their favourite show and also select a second favourite. The favourite selected gets two points, whilst the second favourite gets one point. When the polls close, the comedy with the highest number of points wins that category. It is as simple as that. Because we are also interested in discovering what people hated, our polls also ask voters to choose their least favourite comedy in each category.
